I recently read a story about a snake and eagle which I am going to share with you.
One day, a man saw an eagle holding a wiggling snake in her beak. The eagle has caught a new prey and is fighting hard to keep the snake in position. There are some stones on the ground.
What would u do if you saw such a sight? Would you…
1. Do nothing and watch the snake suffers;
2. Pick up a stone and throw at the eagle so that she will release the snake.
And if you decide to take a stone and throw it at the eagle, you missed. What will u then do? Would you…
2.1 Pick up another stone and another stone until you manage to fulfill your objective;
2.2 Do nothing and watch the snake suffers.
Depending on your beliefs and value systems, which action will you choose?
And if you understand the teaching of wisdom, compassion and impermanence, how will that affect your choice.
The answer you decide will determine your outlook on life and how you manage to achieve happiness in this world of suffering.

That's kind of a no-win situation. If I throw a rock at the eagle, thus causing it to lose its food and possibly cause it injury, I'm causing it to suffer. No matter what I do, or not do, someone is going to suffer.
Besides, even if the snake gets released, the eagle is just going to go out and catch something else, because that's what eagles do. It's pointless to deny nature.
Maybe it's better just to pray for the snake's quick, painless death and for the welfare of its soul afterward.
If it's a chicken instead of a snake, I would use the stones but since they are both animals of the wild and equally strong, I'd leave them alone and let the law of nature take its course. Besides, I believe it's their karma. Am I heartless, Robin?
Death is the only certain part in every living being's life. Some die for nothing, while others die for the good of others which is the case of the snake.
If the snake lived all it's life without being caught by any eagle feasting upon rats and other small animals, death was still certain.
After the death, the snake would be useful to other small insects living on the ground. Either way, the snake died benefiting others.
So i would let nature take its course, and try not interfere.
Can't give an answer. Tough decision...
Happy Holidays!

Surrender: Problem solving conclusion - culmination of extensive problem solving, brainstorming, and testing alternatives with the final conclusion that you can do nothing to change the circumstances of the issue out of your reach and control and that it would be saner and more realistic to free your energy up by surrendering and letting go of the issue and handing it over to your Higher Power.

Every creature serves a purpose in life as well as in death, in the order of nature.. the snake (upon its death) will be food to the eagle, but in its lifetime will seek other 'smaller' creatures as food. Every creature has a purpose in life too.. to live well, and to 'work' for attainment of the highest level of consciousness (no more rebirth). As such, I think it's best not to interfere with nature.. that is, to leave the eagle alone.
Happy and Prosperous New Year, Robin!
really food for tot... i guess i wouldn't throw the stone...as nature is just like tat.. no snake, the eagle will just go for something else... besides, if no food, the eagle's chicks will starve too... Happy Chinese New Year!
Wishing you a Happy CNY of the Rat.
